What is a Fingerprint?
Unlike cookies which are stored on your device, a "fingerprint" is calculated based on your hardware and software configuration. Websites combine your screen resolution, GPU model, installed fonts, and audio hardware to create a unique ID (Hash) that identifies you across the web.
What Does the Hash Mean?
The SHA-256 Hash you see above is your digital signature. If this hash stays the same even when you clear your cookies or use "Incognito Mode," it means trackers can potentially still identify you.
- Static Hash = Easier to Track
- Changing Hash = Harder to Track
How to Protect Yourself
Total anonymity is difficult, but you can reduce your footprint:
- Use privacy-focused browsers (Brave, Firefox, Tor).
- Disable WebGL or Canvas reading via extensions.
- Use a VPN to mask your IP address.
- Standardize your browser window size.
